This time we feature Deiz, one of the more recent contributors to join the team, but also one of the more productive recently. He’s mostly been working on tons of smaller things that together have improved the game enormously, for example he’s made improvements to walls and gates, the in-game chat, added the ability to resign and improved that, and a lot more. So, without further ado, let’s get to the interview: Continue reading

SourceForge interview with contributors to 0 A.D.
Q: As you’ve been working on this project, what’s been been your biggest surprise that’s come along during this process?
A: The biggest surprise would probably be the excellent reception that 0 A.D. has had in many different communities of fans. From indie game and modder fans to Linux communities – Linux and Free Open Source software communities, and all sorts of fun comments that we keep getting. It’s like Empire Earth, and Rise of Nations, had a baby and it came out free. All sorts of funny, heart warming comments that we keep getting from our fans, and we’d like to reach out and say thank you for all this encouragement that really keeps us going.
User ranks/titles suggestions
As you may have noticed there are custom titles displayed above the avatars in the forum. They are based on the post count and can be changed to whatever we want them to be. Currently they include things like “Community Drunk” and “Community Addict”, but we would like to change them into something better, preferably to do with the ancient world. This is where you come in, please add your suggestions to this thread.
Currently there are 15 ranks, ranging from no posts to impossibly many, and we can add more, so there’s room for plenty of suggestions. Anything related to the Ancient world, and is not a bad thing to have displayed in your profile goes.
We Won!
We won SourceForge’s June Project of the Month poll!
It was neck and neck for days with Sourcefabric’s Newscoop, a FOSS CMS for news websites, but finally, after a hair-raising run for the finish by both contenders, we won by 3 votes (527 to 524)!
This means 0 A.D. will get featured on SourceForge’s blog and mailing list, lending the project high visibility among a new audience of FOSS developers. Reaching out to such large, technically minded audiences helps attract new contributors and speed up the game’s development.
Thanks to the hundreds of our dedicated fans who voted, and a courteous hat tip to Newscoop, for putting up a great fight and for their excellent sportsmanship.
Last but not least, special thanks to 0 A.D. contributor Kieran (k776) for his initiative and leadership in this event. Way to go!
Please vote for 0 A.D. on Sourceforge Project of the Month!
If you have a Twitter account, please consider voting for 0 A.D. as Sourceforge’s project of the month for June 2012.
Just a few hours left.
This way we can attract even more new developers and make faster progress!
Thanks in advance!
